Fat fingers? Bluetooth headset not making you look enough like a prat? Then this is the thing for you.
Students at Duke University in North Carolina have developed the PhonePoint Pen app, which allows users to text their friends by waving their mobile phone around in the air a bit.
It uses accelerometers like those found in Apple's iPhone, and allows users to write notes or diagrams and send them to email addresses.
No cursive though, which is likely to prompt howls of "What's cursive?" from Gen Y users.
Actually, it's all a bit crap at the moment.
You have to stop between letters for a start.
But it's expected to improve and the app will be available for download within months.
The developers say it's ideal for people who like to Tweet while they're jogging without having to worry about "running into trees".
Or out into traffic, as it should be, because we say there are times when you shouldn't mess with evolution.
