A Chinese man has put his body on the line to win a tug-of-war, after his hand was ripped from his wrist.
Mr Shi, 30, of Shenzen said he was an experienced tug-of –war campaigner, and thought it “was all fun and safe”.
However, when the frenzied crowd joined in to help the teams of five, Mr Shi was the unfortunate anchor on the losing side.
With the rope wrapped around his wrist, it was Mr Shi’s flesh versus “strong opposition forces”, according to Guangzhou Harmony Hand Hospital president Liang Ming.
Mr Shi said he called out for people to stop pulling but his “voice was too soft”.
Only by holding up his wrecked arm was Mr Shi able to draw attention to his injury.
He spent five hours on the operating table to have the hand reattached.
